lookbook # 4 - HOW TO STYLE INDIAN ETHNIC / ASIAN WEAR
Hope you all are doing great ! Right now I am really enjoying the positivity
around me. keeping the fasts during navratras and worshipping durga ma on ashtami brings in so
much of inner peace. I love to dress up in the indian traditional wear each time I get a chance.
India has a rich cultural heritage . Not only in terms of various cultures and
ethinicities but also fabrics , weaves , embroideries so on and so forth. India is a country of royalties
who loved rich silks , gold embroideries ,traditional handmade embroideries on the fabrics . Indian
wear not only makes the women look beautiful but elegant and stylish too . Although the traditional
wear may look cumbersome to wear and carry, but in reality it is very practical and easy to wear.
Not only am I proud to be born in a country with such rich heritage, but
also to mention that the new breed of designers are giving an edge to the traditional wear
which the young generation also is looking forward to wear. Sabyasachi , Anamika khanna ,
arpita mehta are a few to mention which have used the traditional weaves and fabric but given
it a modern twist that not only the elderly generation but the younger lot crave to wear the set/draped
sari , the indo -western stilleotes are a few to mention .
Recently I bought a lovely kurta from jaipur . It had gota patti work details on the
neckline . It is supposed to be worn with a simple black/pink tights/pyjami but I styled it in a
different way to wear it to a function in my family. I paired it with a pink sharara and a net duppata
and this is how it turned out to be .

I really liked indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee's take on luxury as told in an interview to time n
style . he said that he related the word luxury to an experience and not just the product . It should be
something that reflects some history and possesses value in its craft .The world will want authenticity
and products that are rare as compared to being expensive .I loved the fact that when asked about
luxury shopping in terms of expensive foreign brands he said people should also look into the indian
culture ,the heritage , the variety , the opulence, the craftsmanship and realize how rich it is .
while foreigners do get so attracted to rich and colorful embroideries and fabrics
we should also explore the possibilities of experiencing that richness.I completely agree with him .it
is really an experience in itself to see how craftsmen and embroiders throughout the various parts of
the country put in the work to produce the extraordinary pieces of embroidery and weaves. Be it the
kashmiri kashidakari or the lucknawi chikankari ,the phulkari embroidery of punjab ,the bengal
kantha ,the mirror work of gujrat all speak of the rich heritage of india . And I really feel special
when I wear or carry garments with any of these work .I feel as if I am wearing a piece of art .
